THE CHALLENGES

Providing this level of care comes at a cost. Rising operating expenses, plateaued insurance reimbursement, and the high cost of specialty services stretch our resources to the limit. Last year alone, Mid-State absorbed more than $154,500 in uncompensated care to ensure no patient was left behind. That is why philanthropic support is vital. Your generosity helps bridge the gap between what healthcare costs and what insurance will cover — ensuring that every member of our community can receive the care they need, when they need it.

HOW CAN YOU HELP

By giving to one of our priority funds, you can directly strengthen care and expand access for neighbors in need:

Mission Support Fund
Our core mission is to provide high-quality healthcare for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Donations to this fund help offset the cost of care for community members who cannot afford it, ensuring no neighbor is left without essential services. Support also helps us meet our most pressing needs across our six sites — from purchasing exam room supplies to replacing equipment and keeping our facilities ready for patients.

Little Antlers Learning Center Fund
Mid-State founded the Little Antlers Learning Center in 2008 to provide our staff with access to quality childcare. What began as a small program has since grown into a state-of-the-art center that now serves the wider community, responding to the critical need for affordable, reliable childcare. Today, Little Antlers provides a nurturing environment for more than 70 children, from infants as young as 6 weeks to preschoolers age 5. The Little Antlers Learning Center Fund helps us keep childcare both affordable and accessible for local families.

Oral Health Access Fund
Dental care is a vital part of overall health, yet it is one of the most underfunded areas of medicine. At our two dental clinic locations, Mid-State’s oral health team provides nearly 7,000 visits each year — from routine checkups to urgent dental emergencies. With many patients uninsured, paired with low reimbursement rates for dental services, much of this care goes uncompensated. The Oral Health Access Fund offsets these costs, ensuring every patient can receive the dental care they need.

Founders Fund
Created by one of Mid-State’s founders, Dr. Frederick Kelsey, this fund was established to ensure clinicians can focus on what matters most: caring for patients. By reducing administrative burdens and supporting clinician needs, the Founders Fund helps to retain talented clinicians, promote thoughtful, quality care, and sustain access to primary care in our community for years to come. Our core mission is to provide high-quality healthcare for everyone, regardless of ability to pay.
